Update: New IMO Requirements for Enclosed Space Entry MSC.581(110)

With the adoption of Resolution MSC.581(110), the IMO has updated the safety standards for entering enclosed spaces.

These revised recommendations supplement existing SOLAS (IMO A.1050) regulations and place a stronger focus on comprehensive atmospheric monitoring.

Key Changes:

  • Mandatory CO2 Measurement: Explicit monitoring of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is now required, as dangerous concentrations often occur before oxygen levels drop significantly.

  • Simultaneous Testing: Gas detectors must be capable of measuring Oxygen (O2), Flammable Gases (LEL), and toxic gases (CO, H2S and now CO2) simultaneously.

  • Continuous Monitoring: The atmosphere must be actively monitored for the entire duration of the stay within the enclosed space.

The Efficient Solution for Your Fleet:

The Dräger X-am 5000/5600 provides a seamless upgrade to the required 5-gas measurement.

It is 100% compatible with your existing X-am 2500-series accessories (charging cradles, pumps, and test stations), ensuring compliance with MSC.581(110) while keeping costs for new equip low.
